2004 Kawai 606 Upright Piano - American Traditional Oak

The Kawai Musical Instruments Manufacturing Co. was established in 1927 by Koichi Kawai an apprentice of Torakusu Yamaha (founder of Yamaha) in the city of Hamamatsu, Japan. They are currently the 2nd largest piano manufacturer in Japan and have developed a reputation for making high-quality instruments that are sought after by decerning musicians worldwide.

 

This pre-owned Kawai 606 ATO is not your average studio upright! It was one of the last pianos manufactured in Kawai's Lincolnton, North Carolina factory which was opened in 1988 specifically to assemble Kawai's line of decorator pianos - combining the USA's expertise in fine furniture with Japanese precision-engineered parts. Unfortunately, in 2004 Kawai ceased production in the USA and moved production to Indonesia citing rising labour costs and a hostile economy.

 

The Kawai 606 had several notable features like extended key sticks (16 ¼") for a more consistent and responsive touch, an enlarged 2,015 sq in. solid spruce soundboard for a rich and resonant tone, ABS Styran action parts for stability and consistency in touch, hard maple pinblock and 5 laminated back post for optimal tuning stability, and a steel frame reinforced keybed for increased structural durability.

 

The as a special decorator model the finish is absolutely stunning! Featuring genuine American Oak veneer, elegantly carved legs, music rest, and brass fittings. The cabinet panels are made of light weight high-quality wood laminates and lumber core - NOT the usual heavy MDF found on most modern pianos!
