Hailun HG161 - Professional Series Grand Piano
The Hailun HG161 provides a full premium piano experience at a not-so-premium price. As a 5-foot 4-inch grand piano it’s commonly compared to Japanese grands like the Yamaha GC1 and the Kawai GL-30 but tone-wise, it would be more accurate to compare it to a European-made grand. The HG161 features full Duplex Scale and German cold-pressed hammers, which give it a pleasantly warm upper range with good clarity. The bass comes out full and strong - benefiting from the extended length Röslau strings. The Hailun Performance Plus European Hornbeam action provides great responsiveness and consistency throughout the entire keyboard allowing new levels of musical expression and control. Features like the wet-sand-cast iron plate and extra thick maple rim ensure lasting performance and durability. With the Hailun HG161, you can experience true European touch and tone at a price well below Japanese-made instruments!
Duplex Scale
In normal pianos the non-speaking length of strings behind the bridge are muted with felt to avoid unwanted resonances, Duplex Scale on the other hand acts like a secondary bridge and makes them ring out at a complimenting pitch. This premium feature adds both richness and sparkle to the tenor/ treble voices. Duplex Scale is normally only found on very high-end pianos - but it comes standard on all Hailun Classic and Professional Series grands!
Action
The Hailun HG161 is equipped with Hailun's Performance Plus™ action made of European hornbeam. European hornbeam is famous for its density and toughness, in fact, it is the hardest wood found in Europe! Hailun's designers have engineered the touch to be highly responsive and fluid throughout the entire keyboard. This allows for a wide range of dynamics and musical expression.
Keyboard
The Hailun HG161 features natural keys made of spruce with durable polymer synthetic keytops. An interesting feature is the genuine Ebony wood sharps which have a naturally non-slip texture.
Soundboard
The Hailun HG161 features a premium soundboard made of Mountain Spruce that has been carefully cut, dried, and aged. Mountain spruce is highly sought after for its acoustic properties and tight grain pattern - a direct result of the harsh climate conditions in which it grows. Revered piano makers from Schimmel to C. Bechstein have choosen this prized wood for their soundboards.
Bridges
To ensure maximum sound transference, precision-notched solid maple is used for both the bass and treble bridges. The bass bridge is cantilevered to maximize string speaking length and to place the contact point on a more acoustically flexible area of the soundboard for increased resonance.
Premium Hammers
The Hailun HG161 features Premium German FFW™ felt hammers. German felt is pressed without heat to preserve the natural structure and elasticity of the wool for a richer tone and increased durability.
Strings
The Hailun HG161 uses Röslau steel strings from Germany. Röslau strings have an excellent reputation for quality, durability, and longevity. They are found on some of the world's finest pianos.
Agraffes
Solid brass agraffes are used to regulate the speaking length and angle of the strings. Agraffes allow for greater precision and cleaner string termination.
Pinblock
The Hailun HG161 features a 18-layer pinblock made of hardwood maple. These many layers of rigid hardwood enhance the grip on the tuning pins for increased tuning stability
Wet Sand Cast Plate
The cast iron plate (also known as the frame or harp) of a piano must withstand approx. 40,000 lbs of tension from the strings. As such it must be exceptionally dense and strong. The plate of the Hailun HG161 is made in the traditional slow wet-sand-cast method. This takes more time and resources than a standard mass-produced plate but the results are significantly denser and more durable. This same method is used by Steinway, Bosendorfer, and other luxury piano makers.
Rim/Construction
The rim is a highly important part of the piano that also affects the tone. It supports the entire soundboard/frame assembly and reflects sound waves back into the center of the piano. As such it must be both dense and thick to function as intended. Many low-end Asian pianos have rims that are made too thin or with unsuitable woods resulting in energy loss and poor sustain. On the other hand all Hailun grand pianos including the HG161 feature hardwood maple (inner and outer) rims that are 25% thicker than comparable Japanese pianos - for greater durability, longevity, and tonal quality. The back frame braces are made of extra thick hardwood beams arranged in a fan pattern to resist twisting and warping.
Cabinet/Case
The Hailun HG161 is a premium piano not only in touch and tone but also in appearance. It features a stunning birds-eye maple veneer on the inner rim which compliments the timeless polished ebony finish and rose-gold plate. It also features a soft close fallboard - to prevent accidents, and a sliding music desk with adjustable angles.
